Decorating and plaster repairs

Make good damaged surfaces and give tired rooms a fresh, consistent finish.

What affects scope

  • Number of rooms, and whether ceilings and woodwork are included
  • How much filling and patch plastering is needed
  • Whether the property is empty or occupied

What to send first

  • Existing colours and your ready-by date
Between tenancies, walls and ceilings show every picture hook, scuff and patch of Blu Tack. PRG fills, repairs and repaints so rooms look clean and consistent for the next tenant or for viewings. The work usually starts with making good: filling holes and cracks, cutting out and patching damaged plaster, and sanding back so repairs do not show through the paint. New plaster gets a mist coat before the finish coats. Marks from water, smoke or nicotine are sealed with a stain block so they do not bleed back through. We decorate walls, ceilings and woodwork, including doors, frames and skirting. Most landlords choose a neutral colour that is easy to touch up, and keeping the same shade from one tenancy to the next makes small repairs quicker in future. How long it takes depends on the number of rooms, how much making good is needed and whether the property is empty. Work in a vacant property is usually quicker than decorating around tenants and furniture. Send a photo of each damaged area and a wider shot of every room on the list, with the colours already used if you have them. If a stain keeps coming back, tell us, as it may point to a leak that should be fixed before decorating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match the existing paint colour?
If you have the paint name or a leftover tin, yes. Otherwise it is often neater to repaint the whole wall so the finish is even.
Do you repair cracked or loose plaster?
Small areas can be cut out and patched before decorating. Larger areas are looked at first so we can tell you what is involved.
Will a stained ceiling just need painting?
Not always. If the stain came from a leak, the leak needs fixing and the ceiling needs to dry out before it is sealed and repainted.
